Dalton Brown volunteers at Access to Business in Wolverhampton, supporting unemployed disabled people as they get back into work, training and self-employment.
Before becoming a volunteer in August 2013, Dalton suffered a severe stroke, which left him with mobility issues, unable to use his right hand, and affected every aspect of his life, including social isolation. He came to Access to Business for assistance in using computers, and learnt how to use adaptive, voice-activated software, including Dragon Naturally Speaking.
His patience and determination enabled him to fully learn the software, following which he began volunteering to support the organisation in developing and improving their services.
Dalton volunteers three times a week, supporting staff with admin and reception work, as well as working with other clients. He specialises in helping them use adaptive software, and is currently teaching a new client how to use Dragon Naturally Speaking. He has a calm and positive outlook, despite what has happened to him, and inspires his colleagues and clients through his volunteer work.
